Free construction estimate software, and what it actually costs
Free estimating tools exist, and for a handyman quote they can be fine. For insurance repair and restoration work, the free part usually ends where the hard part begins: current prices, measured quantities and the policy math.
What free tools leave out
- Current, local pricing. Cost data is licensed and updated monthly by the people who collect it. Free tools either ship stale numbers or none at all.
- Measured quantities. A template with blank quantity boxes makes you the takeoff department.
- Depreciation, ACV, O&P. Claim files need them presented correctly, not bolted on in a spreadsheet.
- Photos tied to the scope. A camera roll is not documentation.
- Someone to call. Free usually means no support.
